Little Egg Harbor Charge Mother and Son with Shoplifting
A mother and her adult son arrested in Little Egg Harbor, which is located in southern Ocean County and charged with various criminal offenses, including shoplifting following a bizarre “missing child” story was uncovered at a local Walmart.
A mother and son were arrested late in September when authorities claim that couple devised a plan whereby the mother would create a diversion so that the son could then shoplift. The mother, a fifty-eight year old woman, told the Walmart employees that her eight year old grandchild was missing and that she was last seen in the jewelry section. While the employees in essence put the store on lockdown as they searched for the “granddaughter”, the son was in the front of the store stuffing bags with merchandise, including clothing and candy. According to the reports, the loss prevention officers first noticed the son on surveillance cameras but it wasn’t until they apprehended the son that they learned of their “master plan”.
The Defendants were both arrested and charged with various crimes by the Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department, including shoplifting. The mother, was charged with creating a false public alarm as well as shoplifting. The son was charged with hindering apprehension, the possession of heroin, the possession of drug paraphernalia as well as shoplifting. It is unclear at this point in time whether or not there ever was a granddaughter. The Defendants were most likely arrested, taken to the police station and released upon a summons to appear in court. Since the son was charged with felony drug offenses, all of the charges, including the mother’s will be transferred to the Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River for disposition.
